We want you to feel welcome at Schertz United Methodist Church. When you walk through our doors for the first time, or even during your most recent visit, the members of our congregation will greet you with a smile, a handshake, a hug, or even a great big Texas “Howdy.”
It is never easy to visit a new church, and our goal is to be as helpful as possible to make your experience with us a positive one. Below you will find a list of common questions about visiting Schertz United Methodist Church, and resources available to members of the congregation and to the community.
What time are your worship services?
We have three joy-filled Sunday services; 9:00am, 11:15am, and 6:45pm Each service has its unique personality and is designed for your particular worship style. The 9:00 am worship is led by our youth and praise band featuring vibrant praise music. At 11:15 am our chancel choir leads a more traditional worship hour with hymn music. Connections worship starts with a free dinner at 6pm, worship at 6:45pm, and then small groups at 7:30pm. Whatever your preferred worship style, SUMC has something for you.
What should I wear?
A few people dress up, but most people choose to attend worship services in casual attire. But it doesn’t matter to us; dress how you feel comfortable and you’ll fit right in at SUMC.
Do you have a nursery?
Yes we do. Our excellent staff shares the love of Jesus with your children. All children ages newborn to 5 years are welcome.
Do you have programs for children and youth?
Yes, several. Our children’s programs include Sunday School (ages 3 years through 6th grade), confirmation classes for 6th graders (to confirm their faith and become a full member of the United Methodist Church.) Our youth programs include Sunday School (7th through 12th grade) with age-appropriate classes, a youth choir, and United Methodist Youth Fellowship (7th through 12th grade).
May I participate in Communion?
Communion is an opportunity to renew our relationship with Jesus Christ. We remember His sacrifice and celebrate our new life through His death and resurrection. This relationship with God is open to all who desire to receive, and our communion table is open to all who seek to renew their relationship with Christ.
How do I become a member at Schertz United Methodist?
Membership at SUMC comes through baptism, profession of faith, or transfer of membership. To discuss church membership, please contact the church offices at 210.658.3202.
Will I be expected to give money?
There is no fee associated with membership at SUMC, nor for attending any worship service. Just as the Bible chronicles faithful people giving the first fruits of their harvest as an offering to God, we give as an act of worship, to acknowledge His presence and give thanks. The offering is a part of our worship services, and you are invited to participate at whatever level you feel comfortable.
