Schertz United Methodist Church has a rich history beginning in July 1903 with a two-week revival sponsored by Bracken Community Methodist. Travel by horse and buggy made attending services in Bracken challenging for Schertz residents. During the revival, Mr. William S. Schneider, a founding resident of Schertz, donated an acre of land on Church Street for the new church. Ten members held services on this land, and by May 1904, a church building was erected with significant community involvement; many donated their time and the women raised funds by soliciting other churches. In 1906, the church joined a circuit with Bracken, and by 1924, it had grown to 50 members and chose to become an independent congregation. Over the years, from 1924 to 1969, the church underwent numerous expansions and renovations, including additions like a parsonage, stained glass windows, and new facilities. In 1952, part of the Educational Building was destroyed by fire. The church relocated to its current 7-acre site in 1991, and by 1998, the original sanctuary was completed. The current sanctuary was finished in December 2012, with its inaugural service held on Christmas Eve.
